VeriStay is used by local government staff, and its reports and letters reach residents and property owners. We want all of it to work for everyone, including people who use a screen reader, keyboard, magnification or other assistive technology.

Our goal

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, the standard the U.S. Department of Justice set for state and local government websites under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. We check new pages against it as we build them.

What we do

  • Pages use proper headings, landmarks and labeled form fields, so screen readers can find their way around.
  • Everything can be used with a keyboard, and images that carry information have text alternatives.
  • Text and controls are designed for readable contrast, and pages can be zoomed and work on phones.
  • Status messages, such as an upload finishing, are announced to screen readers.
  • Compliance reports have a web version as well as the PDF, which is easier to read with assistive technology.

Known limitations

We're still working on these:

  • Maps. Map pins and boundaries are visual. The same information is in the listing tables and on each listing's page.
  • Evidence screenshots. Screenshots that show how a property was identified are images. The written notes and reasoning next to them describe the match, but not every detail in the image.
  • PDFs. Downloaded reports and letters aren't yet fully tagged for screen readers. The online version of a report has the same content.
  • Other services. Some parts of VeriStay use other companies' tools, such as Google Maps on the analyst workspace and Cloudflare's spam check on forms, whose accessibility we don't control.
  • Older pages. Some less-used pages haven't been updated yet. We fix problems on them as we find them.

VeriStay hasn't had an independent accessibility audit yet.

Getting help or another format

If something on VeriStay doesn't work for you, or you need a report or letter in another format, tell us at [email protected] or (513) 202-6331. Let us know the page and what went wrong, and we'll help you get the information another way and work on a fix.

If you received a letter about a rental, you can also contact the jurisdiction that sent it.
